Secondary coach Marquand Manuel said he has standards to which all his defensive backs must adhere.

One of the standards he requires of the Falcons’ secondary is becoming a brotherhood.

“The expectations that I would not let my brother down and I will be my brother’s keeper,” Manuel said.

“No matter who it is. If one guy goes down, it’s our standard (to help them up).”

Manuel said that he coaches “extremely hard” encouraging the secondary to approach every week like a championship week.

“I’m not coaching for Sunday, I’m coaching for today,” Manuel said. “It’s not the wins and losses. If you play to the standard of your excellence, you’ll always win. I think from that standpoint now you’re starting to see the camaraderie starting to gel with guys.”

Rookie safety Robenson Therezie said the secondary has a great bond and communication whenever they practice or work together. Therezie said the secondary also believes in Manuel’s messages of excellence.

“As (Manuel) says, we are held up to a standard that we always have to control and all the defensive backs,” Therezie said. “We have a standard where we have to finish.”
