Editor's note: This is the second in a series introducing you to the 2016 Atlanta Braves.
BRAVES INFIELDER GORDON BECKHAM
What model bat do you use?
I use Old Hickory (model) GB 2. I’ve used it pretty much since I got called up.
What will be your walk-up music?
I haven’t thought about it yet. I used to come out to ‘Your Love’ by The Outfields. That’s a top contender.
What do you know now about baseball that you didn’t know when you signed?
It’s a business. You play with guys all spring and all of a sudden hallway through the season they are gone.
What do you like to do for fun?
I'm a hunter. I've got a couple of places I go in Georgia. (Beckham attended Atlanta's Westminster Schools and the University of Georgia.) I like to deer hunt with my bow.
What do you like about the current state of baseball?
Baseball is baseball to me. I don’t really think about it outside of going to the field and practicing and playing 162 games. That’s good enough for me. It’s definitely doing well.
Is there anything you’d like to see better about the game?
The nets all the way down. You get nervous seeing these foul balls going into the stands and drilling people. There are kids so you get nervous. I think at some point that will change.
What is your favorite baseball movie?
“Bull Durham.” Comedy. Solid.
You ever get a good baseball tip?
The one I always go back to is, ‘Be fun to watch.’ You never know who’s going to be there to watch you play so go out there and go out there and try to be as fun to watch as you can be. Go out there and enjoy it.
What do you remember about your first home run?
It was in Cincinnati (on June 20, 2009). It was off Johnny Cueto. It was a really hot night. We were playing in the Civil Rights game and we (the White Sox) were wearing these blue unis that were pretty cool. I’ve still got that jersey.
