Patrick Vieira is among four candidates interviewed by Atlanta United for its manager position, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions.

Vieria on Tuesday reportedly became Italian side Genoa’s manager.

The people declined to say who else has interviewed. The position has been maintained on an interim basis by Rob Valentino since President Garth Lagerwey fired Gonzalo Pineda in June. Valentino went 6-6-6 during the regular season and has led Atlanta United into the semifinals of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Atlanta United defeated Montreal in the wild-card round, upset Inter Miami in the first round and will face Orlando on Sunday.

Lagerwey has said several times that Valentino remains a contender to be named as the team’s manager. Lagerwey also has said many times that Atlanta United won’t hire a manager until its season is complete. Valentino said last week that the other candidates have impressive resumes.

Atlanta United declined to comment on its managerial search.

Vieira recently managed Strasbourg in France. Before that, he managed Crystal Palace, Nice, NYCFC and Manchester City’s academy teams. His stellar playing career included Arsenal, A.C. Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City. He made 107 appearances for France.

Atlanta United also is interviewing candidates for its technical director. Carlos Bocanegra was fired in September.
