Dan Quinn’s film review: Stars of the first scrimmage

Falcons coach Dan Quinn gives Ron Rivera a shout-out, discusses the first scrimmage and the backup defensive end position.

The Falcons held their first scrimmage on Thursday and we gave out “game balls” to running back Brian Hill and rookie linebacker Mykal Walker.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn did not talk to the media after the scrimmage and there was no availability on Friday, so we asked him about his film review of the scrimmage on Saturday.

Here’s what Quinn had to say.:

“Defensively, I thought the (defense) really had the advantage on the third downs. I thought they really won that space. The consistency is what we are looking for in all phases. I though the special teams side, there was good kick cover, made a PAT, missed a field goal, had one punt inside the 10 (and) one that went short. Those are the moments where we need to keep pushing those moments for the field position part of it.

“Some guys that stood out, I thought (defensive end Dante) Fowler and (defensive tackle Grady) Jarrett were two that stood out for me. On the offensive side, I thought Brian Hill was certainly one with a nice long run. There will be moments like that in each practice ... but those are things that stood out to me right away.”
