Two women who were allegedly harassed and assaulted on a bus in India decided to fight back. Their actions, caught on tape, have since gone viral.

According to the BBC report, sisters Aarti, 22, and Pooja, 19, were waiting at a bus stop in Rohtak. A group of men threw pieces of paper printed with their mobile phone numbers at the women, telling the women to call them.

The women told the men to stop, but the harassment continued after they all boarded the bus. The men reportedly told the women they did not deserve a seat on the bus. A female passenger tried to intervene, and the men began to taunt her. When the group of men touched Pooja, she warned them that if they touched her again, they would get beaten up.

The men responded by calling a friend to join them while they “beat up some girls.”

The altercation between the women and men escalated physically, with the women removing their belts and striking the men in self-defense. The women say they were pushed off the bus, and the men jumped off and continued to assault them.

The women say that other than the one female passenger, no other bus passengers came to their defense. According to the BBC, the public abuse of women, also known as “Eve teasing,” is rampant in certain parts of India.

The men were arrested and charged with assault. Their families say that the men are due to join the army this month, and will kill themselves if they face any punishment.
