The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is proud to announce its annual community recognition program – the AJC Celebrating Teachers Awards. We believe the very best of the best are worth honoring and giving them the recognition they deserve. This will be a moment of significant pride for the honoree, their family and school.

Jason Carr fell in love with reading at a young age. As soon as he got his driver’s license, he made his first stop the library.

Now as a media specialist at Rocky Mount Elementary School, he is still keeping up with the latest reads and research, and he's gotten to share his knowledge with the many pupils that have crossed his path over the years.

While he began his career at Walton High School, the University of Florida graduate, who has both a bachelor's in English and a master's in library science, has been teaching at Rocky Mount for more than 20 years.

“I am happy to have had the chance to impart a love of reading and research to thousands of students over the years,” Carr said. “I never tire of teaching students how to access and use books and other sources of information.”
