Last December, Scott Casterwiler unexpectedly went into kidney failure.
His wife, Kerri Casterwiler, was devastated.
With no idea where to turn, she went to Facebook with a plea for help and prayers.
“I don't put personal things on Facebook,” Kerri Casterwiler said. “But I knew I had to put this out there: ‘Please pray for Scott who went into sudden kidney failure.’”
Kim George saw the Facebook post and immediately reached out.
“I remember it saying Scott needed a kidney,” George said. “He had no function at all, and immediately, I gave her a call and told her I'd be willing if they need anything to donate.”
George and Scott Casterwiler are related. They’re second cousins that see each other once a year.
George would ultimately offer to donate her kidney shortly after reaching out.
“If I wouldn't have gotten there that day I would've been dead,” Scott Casterwiler said.
On Nov. 2, the two met at a hospital. George gave her cousin the kidney, and the operation was a success.
On Thanksgiving, the cousins got back together for the holidays, but this time, Scott Casterwiler was in much better health.
“There are no words besides thank you for saving his life and giving my husband freedom. Freedom of the dialysis, from the dialysis,” Kerri Casterwiler said.
