J. Alvin Wilbanks, superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools, has been named co-chair of the new Large Countywide and Suburban District Consortium, it was announced Wednesday. The consortium includes the leaders of 15 large suburban school systems who share ideas and resources and advocate for policies and practices aimed at improving public schools. Joshua P. Starr, superintendent of Montgomery County (Md.) Public Schools, will serve as co-chair. “The districts in the consortium have different educational approaches and philosophies and face different challenges. But we have all had success in providing a high-quality education to a large number of students,” Wilbanks said. In 2012, he was a consortium co-chair with Jack Dale, the now-retired superintendent of Fairfax County, Va. Public Schools.
