1. LATE BRAVES GAME BY THE BAY. Let's get the bad sports news out of the way first. Pitcher Tim Lincecum stymied the Braves (a team that suddenly has been prone to being stymied by any team not named Cubs)  in San Francisco in a game that began after many folks' bedtime.  Read about the 4-2 loss, if you have the heart.

2. TWO ARRESTED IN SWAT STANDOFF.  On the metro front, police officers broke into a southwest Atlanta hotel room late Monday, ending an hours-long standoff involving two suspects in the recent deadly crimes in DeKalb County.  Nine shootings have killed four people in recent days, and DeKalb police had worked 60 hours straight to arrest suspects, Chief Cedric Alexander said early Tuesday. But the investigation and search for possible suspects continues, he said.

3. CLAY AIKEN PRIMARY OPPONENT DIES IN FALL.  In national news,  Keith Crisco, 71, who was locked in a too-close-to-call Democratic primary in North Carolina with former "American Idol" singer Clay Aiken died Monday  "after an accidental fall." Aiken was leading Crisco by about 300 votes. Read about what that means for the primary.

4.  HAS COLUMBUS' FLAGSHIP, THE SANTA MARIA BEEN FOUND?  CNN.COM and The Independent report that it may have been discovered more than 500 years after its demise off the coast of Haiti. Barry Clifford, the diver who makes the claim, says a 15th-century cannon was found at the site.  "It is the Mount Everest of shipwrecks for me," he says. "This ship changed the course of human history."

5. THE LATEST IN THE DONALD STERLING SAGA. In an Anderson Cooper interview meant to be an attempt at rehabilitation, the Clippers owner brought up Magic Johnson's HIV status: The AP reports: "He went from apologizing for recent racist remarks to slamming Magic Johnson, repeatedly bringing up the ex-NBA star's HIV status and calling him an unfit role model for children. 'He's got AIDS!' Sterling said loudly at one point in the interview."
