In an industry where consumers pay as much as hundreds of dollars for a pair of ripped jeans, one Japanese brand claims to have the most unique pairs in the world. (Via Piperlime)
What are described as "the only jeans on earth designed by dangerous animals," Zoo Jeans have been distressed by one Japanese zoo's most ferocious residents.
The process starts when tires and other objects covered in denim are thrown into some of the zoo's animal compounds where tigers, lions and bears tear and chew into the fabric to create the look. (Via Zoo Jeans)
According to The Guardian, typical methods of achieving the same design in a factory, such as sandblasting, have been criticized for being harmful to workers' health.
This might sound kind of odd, but it seems like a win-win. The animals are having fun, we get some cool, albeit odd, jeans and the organization behind this project is made up of animal conservationists.
"This was an initiative launched by a group called the Mineko Club, and they are actually auctioning off three pairs of jeans. ... And 100 percent of the proceeds goes back to the Kamine Zoo in Hitachi City." (Via HLN)
The jeans have been listed in the auction section of Japan's Yahoo since Monday. Bids reached as high as nearly $1,200 for the tiger-designed pair as of Thursday morning.
If you want to see the jeans for yourself, they will be on display at the zoo only until July 21.
