A kitten in England miraculously survived a trip through heavy machinery at a recycling plant.

Supervisor Daniel Coker told the London Evening Standard that he can't believe the cat escaped unharmed. Workers heard distressed meows coming from the industrial shredder that separates different types of garbage. By then, it was too late to attempt a rescue, and Coker watched in horror as the kitten moved through the machine.

The cat emerged from the other end of the conveyer belt, sandwiched between blocks of metal.

The cat was not injured, but was understandably stressed from the incident.

Plant workers named the cat Stig, after the character in the classic children’s book, “Stig of the Dump.”

Stig is now in the care of the Danaher Animal Home. The rescue's manager said that Stig is a little anxious but doing well. The rescue hopes to find him a new and safe home soon.
