Robyn Benson was five months pregnant when she was declared brain dead.

However, doctors told her husband Dylan, they thought it would be possible to keep Robyn alive and the baby healthy until they could safely do a c-section.

They were right, and this week little Iver Benson came into the world. "It is with a heavy heart but also with extreme proudness that I am posting this update," Dylan said on his Facebook page.

He continued "we had to unfortunately say goodbye to the strongest and most wonderful woman I have ever met. I miss Robyn more than words can explain. I could not be more impressed with her strength, and I am so lucky to have known her. She will live on forever within Iver, and in my heart."

Hospital workers in Victoria, British Columbia told the Vancouver Sun, Iver was 28 weeks old and weighted two pounds, 13 ounces.

"It's the best and definitely the worst thing to ever happen to me in my life at the same time," Dylan said.

There was an on-line fundraiser for the father and son with a goal of $36,000. The final amount raised was closer to $178,000.

At the end of January a Texas family was in the news when they wanted to remove a pregnant woman from life support but the hospital refused. A judge later ruled the hospital had to comply with the family's wishes.
