Sen. Tim Kaine (D, Va.) and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence faced off in Virginia Tuesday night during the only vice presidential debate to be held this election year.
The two debated a week and a day after their running mates – Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump – took part in the first 2016 presidential debate, one that was watched by more than 80 million viewers.
Both men have extensive experience in government. Kaine is the former governor of Virginia and Pence served six terms as a congressman from Indiana before being elected governor.
The event at Longwood University in Farmville, Va., began at 9 p.m. (ET). It was scheduled to be 90 minutes long, without commercial interruption and broken into 10 parts, according to organizers.
The debate was televised live on cable news networks, the three major networks and other media outlets, including social media.
