A driver of a car that appeared to be stuck on the railroad tracks in heavy traffic in Norcross was transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries after the vehicle was struck by a train at 6:11 p.m. Thursday.

Gwinnett firefighters had to extricate the driver, the car’s lone occupant, after his 2009 Mazda hatchback was struck at Holcomb Bridge Road and Thrasher Street. Firefighters reported the driver was conscious and alert when transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

Norcross police reported the man did not appear to be seriously injured and the train did not jump the tracks.

There were no other injuries and the train did not appear to be according to the fire department.
