A beer truck driver was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash Friday in Gwinnett County, a fire spokesman said.

The accident shut down Ga. 316 eastbound at Harbins Road for more than two hours, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The crash was still blocking most lanes at 8:45 a.m.

“The accident reportedly involved a tractor-trailer, a beverage delivery truck and a passenger car,” Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

When fire crews arrived just before 6:45 a.m., they found the driver of the Modelo beer delivery truck trapped in the cab of his vehicle.

Paramedics had to treat the man while firefighters worked to free him.

“The man was conscious and talking with firefighters during the ordeal,” Rutledge said.

He was freed at 7:24 a.m. and taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

“The driver was extricated by firefighters using hydraulic rescue tools,” Rutledge said. “The extrication took additional time to complete due to the degree of entanglement.”

A woman behind the wheel of the passenger car suffered a minor injury in the crash, Rutledge said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Gwinnett police are investigating the crash.
