Some took to the streets to protest Wednesday night after no officer was directly indicted in the death of Breonna Taylor, a Black woman fatally shot multiple times by police issuing a no-knock warrant. One political pundit responded on Twitter to the indictment with what appeared to be a reprimand of Taylor, which drew visceral criticism Thursday on Twitter.

On Wednesday, Tomi Lahren, a conservative political commentator, riled those who were bewildered by the results of the Kentucky grand jury, which indicted former Louisville Detective Brett Hankison on three charges of wanton endangerment.

The officers responsible for shooting Taylor, Sgt. Jon Mattingly and Detective Myles Cosgrove, were not charged or fired as Louisville officers. Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, shot at the officers after they broke down the door to their home. Walker was charged with attempted murder initially, but those charges were dropped. He is suing the city after saying the officers broke in unannounced and he was falsely charged.

After the indictment announcement, Lahren posted a tweet that appeared to blame Taylor or perhaps Walker for what happened at her home March 13.

“It is NOT an officer’s duty to gamble with his/her life so you can happily and comfortably resist arrest,” she tweeted Wednesday.

According to a timeline of the events of the night gathered by the Louisville Courier Journal, the officers, despite it being a no-knock warrant, knocked on Taylor’s door several times. The knocking startled Taylor and Walker out of bed, and “they began yelling out, asking who is there, Walker said. They don’t hear a response," according to the report. Within 10 minutes, Taylor was dead after being shot six times. Walker shot one of the officers in the leg once.

Taylor’s death and Wednesday’s indictment was heartbreaking for many, so Lahren’s tweet was received with disgust by most Twitter users. Some mocked her as being a “white supremacist,” for appearing to support the right to bear arms selectively.

Lahren doubled down on her statement Thursday morning, stating the protests that occurred after the indictment were unfair to “innocent officers.”

She also criticized Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris for tweeting “Keep speaking Breonna Taylor’s name.”

Her statement brought her further lambasting Thursday afternoon.

Some on Twitter agreed with Lahren’s stance.
