6 things to know today about the Orlando nightclub massacre

1. 'Mommy, I love you.' That was the text Eddie Jamoldroy Justice sent his mom before was killed in the Orlando, Florida, nightclub shooting. His anxious mother did not learn he was a victim until nearly 24 hours later.

2. Atlanta remembers those who died in Orlando.  As the somber mood shifted to jubilant on 10th street Sunday night, then back to mournful, there were so many candles that the words were obscured. The message, though, was clear.

3. Some gay men can't give blood. The American Red Cross is sending blood to Orlando in wake of the worst mass shooting on U.S. soil, but around metro Atlanta, those in the gay community who want to help the most likely are blocked from giving.

4. Who were the massacre victims? The early list of the dead provided by the City of Orlando includes those ranging in age from 20 to 50. The roll will be updated throughout the day.

5. Who was the shooter?  Omar Mateen was a body builder and a security guard, a religious man who attended the local mosque and wanted to become a police officer.

6. Ex-wife: 'He was mentally unstable, mentally ill.' The former spouse of shooter Omar Mateen says he was so abusive that she began to worry about her safety before she managed to leave him.
