Q: We have been bombarded with ads for the movie “A Most Wanted Man,” with Philip Seymour Hoffman, but it hasn’t made it to any of our local theaters. It’s only at Phipps. Why hasn’t it opened anywhere else?
—Wayne Langley, Smyrna
A: The movie, starring Hoffman, who died of a drug overdose in February, had a limited release, but had expanded from 361 to more than 700 screens nationally by Aug. 1.
Roadside Attractions, the film’s distributor, wanted to analyze sales figures and the audiences’ average age from the first two weeks before increasing the number of theaters showing the movie. Company president Howard Cohen said, “57 (percent) of the opening crowd was over 50,” Variety reported.
“A Most Wanted Man” is showing at two Cobb County theaters – Merchants Walk Stadium Cinema and Regal Town Center Stadium 16 – this week, according to Fandango.com, a movie website. It’s also showing at AMC Phipps Plaza 14, Regal Hollywood 24 North, Lefont Sandy Springs and Midtown Art Cinema.

—Kathy Syster, Norcross
