Q: I’m trying to find out more info about a recent Delta flight from Lagos that diverted to Bermuda. The report says the flight continued on to Atlanta.
—Ray Heinonen, Jupiter, Fla.
A: An ill passenger caused a Delta flight from Lagos, Nigeria, to Atlanta, to be diverted to Bermuda on Sept. 4. The passenger was examined by medical personnel on the plane in Bermuda and then continued to Atlanta, a Delta spokesman told Q&A on the News in an email.
Bernews.com, a Bermuda news service, reported the passenger was “suffering from a suspected stroke.” The Bermuda Ministry of Health, Seniors and Environment issued this statement, as reported by Bernews.com: “Upon meeting the aircraft, having learned that it had originated in Nigeria, emergency responders began the process to determine whether or not there was a risk that the passenger could have been infected by Ebola. Preliminary reports indicate that, out of an abundance of caution, it was decided that the passenger should be kept on the aircraft until the EMTs received personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for dealing with a possible Ebola infection. Before the PPE was obtained, emergency responders were advised by the airline representative that the aircraft would continue to its destination.”
