Q: I’m confused. There are Brookhaven rezoning notice signs in an area between I-85 and Briarcliff Road. I see them between Sheridan and at least Clairmont. Isn’t Brookhaven’s boundary at I-85? What are these signs for?

A: Executive Park and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta have petitioned Brookhaven to annex an area that is just southeast of I-85 in the North Druid Hills area, a deal is being discussed by the Brookhaven City Council. The city "is required to complete all zoning procedures with respect to the property that has been requested for annexation and therefore, those blue signs are meant to provide notice to the public that a request to rezone the property has been made in conjunction with the annexation," a city spokesman told Q&A on the News in an email.

The council, which has deferred votes on the annexation in meetings on Nov. 20, Nov. 24 and Dec. 2, will meet again on Dec. 8, the spokesman said. “We’re just not 100 percent ready yet,” Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis told the Brookhaven Post last week. “We need a few days to make sure we’ve done everything we need to do to protect our citizens’ best interests.”

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta owns the property around Tullie Road, where the Executive Park Motor Hotel was located, and Executive Park includes the area on the other side of North Druid Hills, around Executive Park Drive and to Briarcliff Road. The hotel was imploded Nov. 8.
