Q: Why will a Braves player (or players) lift up on the back collar of a teammate’s jersey whenever he hits a home run or makes a good play? Obviously, it’s a ritual, but what does it mean and when/how did it start? Did it begin with a particular player and/or on a specific occasion? Is it strictly a Braves thing?

A: Braves outfielder Jason Heyward said it's a way for the players to goof off or tease a teammate. "It's just a joke, (a way) for us to have fun," Heyward said. "If somebody says something, like (closer) Craig (Kimbrel) will say something Alabama-like. Nothing against Alabama, but it'll be one of those (grab the collar moments)." Heyward said he and first baseman Freddie Freeman brought the idea to the Braves last year. "To be honest, we've done that, I guess, in the minor leagues some, my friends and myself," he said. "Last year, (catcher Brian McCann) saw it, and he's like, 'Oh, we've got to keep doing it.' "
