Q: Regarding the Atlanta area woman who won the Georgia Lottery last month, I read she’s receiving $120 million. That’s much less than the lottery jackpot was worth. Why is that?
—D. Wells, Lawrenceville
A: Ira Curry, of Stone Mountain, split the Mega Millions jackpot of $648 million with another winner in San Jose, Calif., in December. She then chose to take the one-time payout – instead of yearly payments — which is about $120 million after federal and state taxes.
