Q: I noticed that there were no corporate logos on the clothing or golf bags of the U.S. or European players in the Ryder Cup tournament. Do the players have a specific exemption in their endorsement contracts for Ryder Cup play? Also, do the players on the winning team get any purse money?

— Frank Manfre, Grayson

A: The golfers are not compensated for playing in the Ryder Cup because it is an international team competition where they "compete for pride and country," Julius Mason, the senior director for communications and media relations for PGA of America, told Q&A on the News in an email. The U.S. players direct $200,000 each to charity and to programs involved in the growth of the game, he said. Europe rallied on the final day to defeat the U.S. 14½-13½ in this year's Ryder Cup, which was held Sept. 28-30 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.
