Q: Can you explain what are the U.S. sanctions against Iran? I don’t have a clear picture of what those are. Is it money, food or doing business with them? What is it?

A: The U.S. has imposed sanctions against Iran since the 1979 embassy takeover in Tehran and currently has a "strong, inter-locking matrix of sanctions measures relating to Iran's nuclear, missile, energy, shipping, transportation and financial sectors." The U.S. State Department states on its website that the sanctions are designed to stop Iran from developing prohibited nuclear programs by blocking the "transfer" of weapons and technology. They also target "select sectors of the Iranian economy" and encourage Iran to discuss its "nonproliferation obligations" with the U.S. and other countries.
Other countries and the United Nations also impose sanctions against Iran. The U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China are in the final phase of talks with Iran to lift international sanctions if it “agrees to long-term curbs on its nuclear program,” the Associated Press reported.
Q: What happened to Channel 11 sportscaster Sam Crenshaw? I haven’t seen him around in long time.

A: Crenshaw, who spent 16 years at 11 Alive before he was let go last summer, has been working part time for Fox 5 since Merissa Lynn left for Fox 13 in Tampa, Fla., earlier this month. He also launched Peach State College Sports (peachstatecollegesports.com) and has been working for 92.9/The Game, The AJC has reported.
