A new state audit report finds the office charged with regulating for-profit colleges has improved following staff changes and policy updates.

The audit, released this week, follows up on a dismal showing in a 2013 report that found the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission had problems identifying schools with both educational and financial problems. Last August, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution published an investigation showing the problems at the commission ran deep. A week later Gov. Nathan Deal appointed three new board members and two months later the longtime director announced his retirement.
