new analysis of performance with at-risk student groups shows Cobb County with the highest percentage of schools in metro Atlanta that "beat the odds."

The annual statistical analysis by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement compares schools' ability to teach based on student characteristics that are "outside the school's control." Race, ethnicity, disabilities, English fluency, economic "disadvantage" and transience were considered in Thursday's report for 2017. Typically, 40 percent of schools beat the odds.

In Cobb, 81 percent of district schools beat the odds, according to a review by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In Marietta City Schools, 73 percent did.
