The Roswell Police Explorers are looking to flesh out their numbers. Post adviser Jeremy Bringle said they have several openings, and can take up to 15 members, total.

Bringle said the program is designed for youngsters ages 14 to 20. Participants have to be at least a freshman in high school, must have a minimum 2.5 GPA with at least a 70 average in all subjects, and have good attendance and disciplinary records at their schools.

Bringle said the Explorers take part in a wide variety of activities, learning about such things as traffic stops, active shooter training, building clearing and the criminal justice system in general. He said they also learn such adult life skills as writing a resume and job interviewing.

The Roswell program's been in existence close to 15 years, and Bringle said a considerable number of its 80 to 100 graduates have gone into law enforcement, some of them landing with the Roswell Police Department.
