A suspect was in custody after he wrecked an allegedly stolen vehicle while trying to flee DeKalb County police Thursday morning.

The crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. on Pleas Drive near Ellenwood.

DeKalb police Capt. S.R. Fore said officers were moving into position to attempt a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle when the suspect “apparently noticed police behind him and took off, traveling only a short distance before losing control, running off the road and striking a mailbox and tree.”

Fore said the driver, whose name has not been released, then attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported.
