Hope DeKalb doesn’t end its ban on pit bulls

I read with interest of the potential lifting of DeKalb County’s pit bull ban.

This took me back 25 years, to when I served as foreman of a jury that found a man guilty of involuntary manslaughter after his pit bulls killed a boy. I can still see the awful autopsy pictures in my mind, and hear the expert witness who said that the dogs had no “off” button.

I’m a dog lover. Mojo (my dog) is family. I feel for the good dogs that get a bad rap because of the irresponsibility of their owners. However, until we have a way of doing background checks, and licensing owners of dogs, I would feel safer not having pit bulls in DeKalb County.

People’s wealth doesn’t belong to government

I was infuriated to read Clarence Page’s piece “Federal benefits for everyone” (Opinion, July 20).

He tries to make the case that your generous government gives you money for which you should be grateful. This is a typical statist liberal who believes that all wealth rightly belongs to the government, and if government reduces your taxes, you should treat that as a generous gift. When a politician talks about “paying for a tax cut,” he is telling you he believes your money really belongs to him.

If I had all of the money I paid into Social Security and Medicare, I would have a lot more money than I will ever get back out of the government. Why? Because government is incapable of doing anything efficiently.

It is time to get rid of politicians from either party who think your money belongs to them — before it is too late.

Make things right for kids who were cheated

What about the children in the Atlanta Public Schools system who have been cheated? What remedies are available to them? Could any of these children be given tests again to find out if they need tutoring?

The cheated children are the biggest scandal in this affair. Atlanta Public Schools has an obligation to make this right for them. Richard Wolters, Atlanta

Chambliss’ actions warrant his ouster

I’m officially starting the “kick out the bum” campaign regarding U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga.

Sen. Chambliss has sold his soul to “tax and spend,” and he has to go. I say no new taxes — until this government demonstrates that it is serious about cutting the out-of-control spending. Larry Taylor, Marietta

We trust Georgia to find more car sticker slogans

Georgia has a chance to make millions on stickers available for the new car tags. They need to add more options. For example, they could add stickers that read “In atheism we trust,” “In the ACLU we trust,” “In voodoo we trust,” or “We trust nobody.” This would be politically correct and reflect our individual freedoms.
