PSC should embrace Vogtle forward-thinking
Customers shouldn’t be forced to bailout Georgia Power’s risky, failing investments.
As reported in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Public Service Commission staff concludes construction at Vogtle 3 and 4 should be canceled. “’Completion of the project is no longer economic given the additional costs and schedule delays,’ the analysts said in written testimony to commissioners.”
The cost of electricity generated by Vogtle 3 and 4 — if they are completed — is not comparable to clean, safe, inexpensive renewable energy.
Lazard’s November 2017 Levelized Cost of Energy Analysis shows the cost of utility-scale solar is $50/megawatt hour, wind is $45 and nuclear is $148.
Ameren Missouri proposes allowing large business customers and cities to meet their energy needs with carbon-free wind generation.
Halt construction at Vogtle 3 and 4. Make investments in energy efficiency and clean, safe renewable power.

Equal does not mean identical
A letter-writer, “Equal opportunity, not equal outcomes,” Readers Write, Dec. 6, believes people cannot be considered equal because we are all different, but being equal does not necessarily mean to be identical. When in circulation, a silver dollar and a paper dollar had the same value in financial transactions. Men and women are also different but equal in value, because neither would exist without the other. Both sexes, though different physically, are held accountable by the law.
From what they said and wrote, our founding fathers’ intent was to guarantee equal justice to all men, regardless of their differences. A president could not be above the law nor a poor man denied justice. All citizens are meant to be equally protected or punished according to our actions, not who we are.
