ACLU director should have more fortitude
In recent articles about Maya Dillard Smith resigning as ACLU Georgia director over the organization’s position on transgender people being allowed to use bathrooms that match their gender identity, she asks, “How comfortable are we supposed to feel as people” and stated that her two younger daughters were visibly frightened because three 6-foot tall women with deep voices were in the bathroom. Get real. Since when is anyone guaranteed to feel “comfortable” in public restrooms? What if the three individuals were burly lesbians with masculine dress and mannerisms? And when she felt “ill-prepared” to explain to her daughters what was up, I would think that someone holding such a specialized position would have the wherewithal to tell them that the world is made up of wondrously diverse individuals who deserve all of our support and love.

Perdue’s comments an outrage
I am appalled and outraged by U.S. Sen. David Perdue’s comments during his address to the Faith and Freedom Coalition on June 10. In a patently inappropriate attempt at humor, he said “…we should pray for our leaders and, yes, even our president. We should pray for President Obama,” then quoted Psalms 109:8 and urged “let his days be few” to laughter and applause from the audience. When caught out and criticized for his inappropriate remarks, his office then released a statement blaming the media for igniting the controversy by snidely saying “ … we should add the media to our prayer list because they are pushing a narrative to create controversy… .” Perdue should man up and take responsibility for his stupid remarks.
