Three inmates died and five were hospitalized after an incident at an Oklahoma correctional facility Saturday.
Just after 4:30 p.m., staff at the Cimarron Correctional Facility quelled an inmate disturbance.
Officials said it was contained to a single housing pod and lasted approximately 40 minutes.
The facility had been placed on lockdown status, which meant inmates were confined to their housing areas, allowing facility management and law enforcement the opportunity to investigate the incident and conduct a welfare check on all offenders housed at the facility.
Officials say three inmates were confirmed dead and five were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Their names are not being released.
No staff members were injured in the incident.
The incident is under investigation.
