A teacher in Union, South Carolina, resigned after a student took her phone off her desk, found a nude photo she sent to her husband and forwarded it to classmates.

Leigh Ann Arthur was a teacher at the Union County Career and Technical Center for 13 years, but had to resign this week after the nude photo of her spread across the school, WYFF reports.

According to NBC News, Arthur was on hall patrol duty on Feb. 19 when she left her phone on her desk, unlocked. A 16-year-old student grabbed the phone and found a nude photo Arthur sent to her husband for Valentine's Day.

"He had to hit my apps button and to open up all my apps and then open my gallery," Arthur told NBC News. After finding the photo, the student took a picture of it and sent it via text and social media to his classmates.

Superintendent David Eubanks said Arthur had to either be dismissed or resign.

The Union County Sheriff's Office is investigating and will determine whether the teen is charged, WYFF reported.

WSPA reports the student told Arthur that “your day of reckoning is coming” as he left her class that day. She told WYFF that she has since spoken to his parents, who sided with her, and has forgiven the student for what he did. "He had the ultimate decision to take pictures of my pictures, and he had the ultimate decision to send them out,” she said.
