A massive sinkhole is taking over the front yard of a home in Iowa.
Around midnight Wednesday, the homeowner told KCCI he heard what sounded like thunder and went outside to investigate.
That’s when he discovered the sinkhole. Authorities were called and the area was cordoned off. The sinkhole is approximately 40 feet deep and is believed to have been caused by a collapsing vertical mineshaft.
The sinkhole has swallowed a tree and continues to grow.
