A mother in Arkansas is accused of leaving her 4-month-old baby in a hot car while she went to eat pizza.

The temperature at the time of the incident was 96 degrees, with a heat index of 108 degrees, according to police.

When police arrived to the parking lot of Larry's Pizza, the baby had been removed from the vehicle after reportedly being seen in the locked car with the windows rolled up and no air conditioning on for approximately 10 minutes, according to KAIT8.

The infant received medical assistance from paramedics at the scene before being transported to St. Bernards Medical Center. The baby’s temperature at the hospital registered 99.9 degrees, 45 minutes after being removed from the vehicle.

The mother, Brittany N. Reeder, 25, was questioned as the scene by police. She said that when she and her family arrived at the restaurant, the infant was sleeping, so they decided to leave the baby in the car. After about 10-15 minutes in the restaurant, Reeder’s aunt asked about the baby, according to the incident report. Reeder went to check on the baby and realized that the baby could be in distress, according to police.

Police cited Reeder with child endangerment and released her. A copy of the police report was sent to a state child welfare agency, who may further investigate the case.
