A post that millions of users on Facebook have been copying, pasting and posting on their Facebook walls won’t actually do anything, despite what it says.

In part, the viral post says “I declare that my rights are attached to all my personal data, drawings, paintings, photos, texts etc... published on my profile. For commercial use of the foregoing my written consent is required at all times.”

Facebook responded to the post by referring users to its terms of service page.

“You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through your settings,” the company stated.

So if you’ve seen the post circulating on your newsfeed, there’s no need to post it yourself in order to own your posts, photos, status updates, etc.
