A boy recently became an honorary firefighter after battling something much scarier: cancer.

Connor Wilson has spent nearly his entire life battling a rare form of cancer called anaplastic enpendymoma. He was named honorary firefighter by the Center Point Fire District in Alabama on Monday.

"We knew he was going to get to come out and do a few things, but we didn't know what all they had up their sleeves," Connor's grandmother, Karen Hodges, told WBMA-LD. "So, that was a great surprise, and I know he was thrilled."

The firefighters gave him hands-on experience operating the hose and other firefighting equipment.

Connor will celebrate his new "job" with the firefighters at Chuck E. Cheese’s.
