An abused and mutilated dog that wandered into a Lilburn pharmacy months ago has found a new home.

Bruce, a 7-year-old mixed-breed dog who’d been burned and had his ears lopped off, was recently adopted, dog rescue volunteer Dennis Kronenfeld told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“They picked him up on Friday,” Kronenfeld said of the Maryland family that drove to Gwinnett County to fetch the mended pooch. “We had a local [Maryland] rescue group do a home visit, and they said everything was OK.”

The dog had been in the temporary care of the Society of Humane Friends of Georgia, the non-profit organization that Kronenfeld leads that partners with the Gwinnett County jail to provide therapy for mistreated animals.

Bruce was found March 6 at the CVS Pharmacy in Lilburn and taken to the Gwinnett County animal shelter.

With all of the information that has gone out on Bruce, Kronenfeld considers the adoption a victory.

“I won’t say it’s commonplace,” he said. “Because getting dogs like Bruce is uncommon.”
