Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick Tuesday weighed in on the controversy surrounding former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and the video released this week showing Rice hitting his future wife in an Atlantic City, N.J., elevator.

Speaking on Mike Francesa's show on New York radio station WFAN, Vick first admitted, "honestly, I wouldn't know what to tell Ray Rice right now," then said, "you've got to be conscious of what you're doing and what's going on at all times."

No stranger to controversy, Vick, who served nearly two years behind bars after pleading guilty to federal charges related to his role in a dog-fighting ring, said he “took away a lot from what I went through – the importance of decision-making.”

Vick, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles after leaving the Falcons and now plays for the New York Jets, told Francesa that he hopes “masses of people” learn from Rice’s troubles that led to him being released this week from the Ravens and being banned indefinitely by the NFL.

“Some things we’ve got to learn to bottle up,” Vick said. “There are so many different ways to handle things that come about … Somebody told me you can go 23 hours in a day and do the right thing and in the last hour, you screw up, that’s all people are going to remember.”

While Rice has had a great career, Vick said: “A lot of us had great careers and everything was in our favor. You do the wrong thing in one hour of the day and everything turns around.”
