The Woodstock City Council has approved zoning with special conditions to allow a local craft brewer to create a small-batch brewery with gathering spaces for events in a vacant downtown building.

Reformation Brewery says it also plans a research and development center in a former warehouse it is leasing at 105 Elm St., behind the Reel Seafood restaurant. The brewery already is renovating parts of the property, adding parking, walkways and a large deck for an outdoor customer area, and it says it hopes to open this spring in this location.

“The property is unique in many ways that would make it difficult for any user to meet the code exactly,” Woodstock staff said in a report to the council, noting sidewalk, street parking and building height issues and other matters.

“Staff recommends approval of the project with several conditions that will allow the applicant to work with staff to ensure that the project will be the best it can be, in terms of site design, ADA accessibility, parking and architecture.”
