White Sox invite North Fulton native to spring training

Dylan Cease, a graduate of Milton High School, has been invited to the Chicago White Sox major league camp for spring training.

Cease is a player in Chicago’s minor league system and was one of 22 non-roster players to get an invite from the White Sox.

A 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher, Cease is one of the White Sox top young prospects. The Sox acquired him last season in a multi-player trade with the Chicago Cubs.

Pitching in Low Single-A last season — and while battling an injury — between stints in Kannapolis and South Bend, Cease notched a 3.86 ERA and 126 strikeouts over 93.1 innings, according to Baseball Reference. He walked 44 batters, allowed 74 hits, and had a WHIP of 1.264.

The 22-year-old is a 2014 graduate of Milton High. That same year, the Cubs selected him in the sixth round of the MLB June Amateur Draft.

Cease and the White Sox will go through spring training in Arizona. Pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 14, and Chicago's first game is against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Feb. 23.
