Folks living near the former Milton High School campus in Alpharetta may have heard a bang or other loud noises earlier this week.
Several of those folks called the city to see what was up. Turns out, the cause of the loud noises coming from the old high school was caused by several police agencies in metro Atlanta using the high school for SWAT training.
Officials with the city of Alpharetta said the training will last through the week.

The training is being coordinated by Fulton County School Police, which was supposed to alert the city and nearby residents and businesses when training began. That warning was never received by the city, Alpharetta officials said.
The training includes SWAT mansuevers for busting into rooms and other activities that involve simulated explosives.
Responding to a concerned commenter on the city's official Facebook page, an official wrote: "We agree that better communication should have happened. When our SWAT Team coordinates training, they put signs out around the site indicating 'Police Training in Progress' and they make contact with surrounding property owners. We have a lot of questions about why this was not done for this training."

City officials said some of the simulated explosions in the training can “faintly be heard” at city hall, which is about 2,200 feet from the old school.
The old Milton High School opened in 1921, and the structure briefly housed Indepedence High School. The building is set to be demolished later this year to make way for the construction of a new STEM-focused high school, which will open in 2020. STEM is short for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
