The McDonough City Council voted at its Sept. 5 workshop meeting to approve an administrative variance for the Homewood Suites hotel development on Avalon Court.

The applicant requested a reduction in the required number of parking spaces from 106 to 103, as well as a reduction in the parking space size from 180 to 162 square feet. Another variance was approved for the fifth phase of the Garden Walk development at the southwest corner of Iris Lake Road and Sanders Walk.

The applicant requested reductions in the required lot width (from 75 to 68 feet), front yard setback (from 35 to 31.5 feet), and rear yard setback (from 30 to 27 feet). Both requests are within the 10-percent threshold allowed by city codes.
