Q: When will the improvements to Ga. 316 at Collins Hill and Ga. 20 be complete? They have been working on it for about five years and are nowhere close to completion.
—Herb Alfrey, Dacula
A: The work on the interchanges at Ga. 316 and Collins Hill Road and Ga. 20 was finished before the completion date of Dec. 31, 2014, but other construction continues.
The Ga. 316 east- and westbound bridges over the Colonial Pipeline are being replaced just west of the new interchange, Georgia DOT spokeswoman Teri N. Pope told Q&A on the News in an email.
“Currently, the original Highway 316 bridge over the pipeline is being demolished, then retaining walls will be built and the bridge finished. This work does not require a lane closure and will not until time to set the bridge beams and shift traffic.”
She stated that sometimes traffic slows there because the “work is very interesting” and motorists “watch the work as they drive through the work zone.”
The roadwork for the bridges is scheduled to be finished by Dec. 31.
Q: What happened to the body of Cecil the lion?
—Doug Allison, Lawrenceville
A: The police are holding Cecil the lion's body as evidence, Johnny Rodrigues, head of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, told Q&A on the News in an email.
Local authorities also have the lion’s head and hide, which was given to them by Theo Bronkhorst, the professional hunter who said he led American dentist Walter Palmer on the hunt.
Cecil was a beloved lion in Hwange National Park. His death has sparked international outrage.
