New item-Interstate 85

Martha Wilson thinks an added sign could make an off-ramp safer.

“Could you please ask the DOT to install a sign on the southbound exit ramp of I-85 exit 61 that both lanes must exit?” she asked.

The exit funnels commuters towards Peachtree City and Fairburn.

She said that she witnessed one major accident (probably a fatality), and recently witnessed another due to the signage at this exit. DOT has marked the highway with a solid white line implying for drivers to not cross over too close to the exit, or return to the main highway. She said the exit lane then splits to a double lane exit at the top of the hill, and the outside lane is marked “Exit Only”.

“People not familiar with this exit do not realize that both lanes must exit. I’ve seen several times where people simply don’t realize they are in an exit only lane, then by the time they realize where they are, they make a split decision to jump back on I-85 south,” she added.

“They are doing 70 mph and think they are still on the main interstate. There is a slight rise in the landscape which prevents the drivers to see what is ahead, and at certain times of the day, the sun is blinding at this rise. It’s a dangerous situation, especially at an exit where large semis are exiting for the truck stop.”

We sent the item to DOT and will let you know what happens.

New item … and fixed! Cobb County

Nancy Sharpe sent us an email about a persistent leak.

“There has been a water leak curbside on Davidson Road adjacent to the Villas Condominiums in east Cobb County since June. Numerous calls, plus email, have been made to the Cobb County Water Department by me and a member of the Villas board. They did send out a crew. When I inquired sometime later when the repairs would be done, I was told they could not locate the leak and that it was minor, but on their list,” she said.

Shape said it’s not minor when it has been leaking for nearly five months.

We sent the item to Cobb County and received a quick response from the county that the item had been fixed.
