Update-DeKalb County
In November, we told you about a resident’s concern over Fairoaks Road in DeKalb County.
“Fairoaks Road in DeKalb County was torn up between LaVista Road and Oak Grove Road in 2013 to replace water lines. It was supposed to be finished by spring of 2014 but was not. The work resumed in late 2014 and was supposed to be complete by spring of 2015,” said Catherine Rogers.
We got an update on the project.
“The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management is making every effort to complete this project in the most expeditious manner possible. As indicated in a number of previous communications to the community, this project along with several other active projects was interrupted in early 2014 to address contractual issues. It had been determined that these projects did not have required service in place to assure that quality and timely work would be performed,” wrote the county’s chief communications officer, Burke Brennan.
He said work on this project was restarted in December 2014 with an expected substantial completion date to occur in April 2015, but it became clear in June 2015 that the contractor could not complete the work and the project was stopped.
“We understand that this has been an extremely unpleasant processes for this community. To that end, we have held three community meetings, distributed approximately 1,500 bulletins, and sent weekly emails to kept residents engaged and informed of project activities. The county’s legal team is negotiating with the contractor to remedy deficiencies so the water main may be utilized as intended. Therefore, a timetable on when this project will be complete cannot be provided at this time.”

A hole in the sidewalk is giving one resident fits.
“There’s a foot deep hole in the sidewalk about 2800 Lenox Rd. NE in Buckhead. I hope someone will fix this. It’s perfect for breaking a leg,” wrote Mimi Schroeder. We sent the item to the city and will keep you updated.

New item-Briarcliff Road
A section of curb came to our attention recently.
“For weeks, a section of granite curb has been in disarray on Briarcliff Road between Lakeside High School and Shallowford Road. Crews had begun to reset these granite curbs, but were apparently reassigned and never got back to finish the job,” wrote Truman Moore.
We sent the item to DeKalb County and received a response.
“It is a DeKalb County curb. However, the damage done to this curb was not performed by DeKalb County work crews. There has never been a work order at this location nor is there any record of any complaint, until I made the inquiry on your behalf. We will schedule a crew to correct the situation, but this wasn’t caused by DeKalb County workers. Installing granite curb is very labor intensive. Whoever started the work was probably overwhelmed by the enormity of the task,” said the county’s chief communications officer, Burke Brennan.
