One suspect has been arrested, but Dunwoody police are seeking a second man allegedly involved in a harrowing armed robbery of a woman at the Walton Apartments this week.
Police have arrested Phillip Redmond III, 21, of Douglasville and charged him with armed robbery in the early Tuesday incident. . The woman told police that as she arrived at her apartment complex on Ashwood Parkway around 3:45 a.m. she was approached by two armed black men wearing all black with their faces covered by red bandanas.
The men approached on both sides of her car, she said. The suspects demanded the woman's purse and took every bag in her car. They fled on foot toward Crown Point Parkway and she called police.
While en route to the apartment complex, officers saw a car matching the description the victim had provided and attempted to pull the driver over. The 1997 tan Cadillac DeVille was traveling south on Ashford Dunwoody Road.
The car stopped briefly on the I-285 westbound entrance ramp; but before officers could approach, the driver sped off on to I-285. Officers pursued the Cadillac along I-285 west as it exited Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.
The car eventually turned into an apartment complex at 4505 Fairburn Road in Atlanta, traveled to the rear of the complex and hit a telephone pole, police said.
The driver and the passenger fled on foot and disappeared into the woods. Inside the car, officers found items belonging to the victim in addition to a handgun and clothing items the victim said the suspects were wearing during the alleged robbery.
The victim told police she had been followed to her apartment on a prior occasion by the tan Cadillac Deville.
Police charged Redmond after investigations showed he was the driver of the Cadillac. He was taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
Police ask that anyone who has information regarding this incident or identity of the second subject to contact police Det. Robert Bentivegna at 678-382-6911 or Robert.bentivegna@dunwoodyga.gov. You may also submit an anonymous tip by
