Gwinnett commissioners recently approved road improvements to Sugarloaf Parkway from I-85 to the Infinite Energy Center entrance west of Satellite Boulevard. The $2.8 million project will improve traffic flow to and from the Infinite Energy Center and the adjoining Revel mixed-use entertainment district currently under const5ruction.

Sugarloaf will be widened from four to six lanes from I-85 to Satellite Boulevard. A third left turn lane will be added from Satellite Boulevard south onto Sugarloaf Parkway as well as a new traffic signal, curb and gutter, and drainage improvements at the intersection.

The construction contract goes to E.R. Snell Contractor Inc., the lowest of eight bidders. Funding comes from several SPLOST programs and from the Sugarloaf Community Improvement District.

Commissioners also accepted about $7 million for resurfacing various county roads from the Georgia Department of Transportation, with a 23 percent local match of about $2 million from the 2017 SPLOST program.
