Stegeman Coliseum was built in 1964.

So is there a steam drill at the University of Georgia’s on-campus arena? Does it have a steam escape?

Such questions had to be on the minds of many Thursday when a big cloud rose over Stegeman Coliseum.

Turns out it was a steam cloud, which prompted officials to evacuate the coliseum, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. The men’s and women’s basketball teams were practicing when the order came.

“A university official noticed steam emitting from Stegeman Coliseum (and) out of an abundance of caution the facility was evacuated until the source was located,” UGA spokesman Greg Trevor told the Banner-Herald.

“UGA facilities management arrived on site and determined that an adjustment was needed to the steam feed, which was the cause of the large amount of steam,” Trevor said.

Buildings on the main campus, including the coliseum, are steam heated.
