The Snellville City Council will hear a second read and vote Aug. 14 on a request from New Bethel Deliverance and Empowerment Ministries Inc. for a zoning change and request for variances to operate a house of worship. The request includes 3.5 acres of land at 2686 and 3076 Springdale Road for an 8,100-square foot existing building and parking on about 1.9 acres of the area.

If approved, variances would reduce the 40-foot required landscape buffer to zero where the property abuts the eastern property line and allow non-conforming parking easements, planter islands, and the existing non-conforming exterior building and parking lot lighting to remain.

Conditions of approval will require any new construction, signage, or exterior lighting to comply with city ordinances and regulations and require an approved permit. Other restrictions involve improvements to the property and prohibit adult entertainment or sale of adult entertainment books, magazines or videos.
